Year 9 Georgia O'keeffe's Quilted Inspired Pieces

We looked at artist Georgia O'keeffe for inspiration this week. Students researched her work and created a quilted piece. I love the machine/hand stitched detail and use of colour. What do you think?

Oddballs Charity Blazer

I was asked by a colleague to create a blazer for the charity oddballs...I did and here it is. Although I found making my first blazer quite a challenge, it was for a very rewarding cause and overall I am pleased with the result. Hopefully it will help to raise awareness for such an incredible charity.

Niamh Mahoney's Quilted Textiles

There is no stopping Niamh Mahoney, she is an inspiration to teach. Niamh is hungry to learn and master her Textiles craft in the form of new techniques, tasks and skills. Niamh is a student who strives to succeed and loves to challenge herself. Niamh started quilting this week and has created excellent personal research from artist Georgia O'keeffe, drawn plans and hand stitched samples. As always Niamh WELL DONE, beautiful work.

Never stop challenging yourself Niamh.

Year 9 G.C.S.E Rebecca Chapman Inspired Free Hand Embroidery

My current year 9 Textiles G.C.S.E group are INCREDIBLE. They demonstrate such dedication, passion and hard work each lesson. I asked them to research artist Rebecca Chapman, design a sample based on her work and create it using applique and free hand machine embroidery. Here are the results.

Well done guys, beautiful work.

Olivia Smith's Pop Art Inspired Sample Work

When choosing a theme for her exam, Year 10 Olivia Smith chose Pop Art. She chose a simple form such as fruit and has emulated Andy Warhol's repetitive style to create her cushion ideas. I loved her drawing page, research and initial samples.

Well done Olivia for your dedication and hard work. I can't wait to see your exam piece completed.

Tom Smith's Textiles

Tom Smith in year 10 chose a complicate fox to sample, similar in style to artist Kirby Rosales.

Tom has managed to simplify a complicated idea into a simple yet effective quilted, hand stitched piece. Tom has an eye for composition and has created a visually stunning sketchbook filled with a plethora of techniques, artists work and his thoughts. Tom's sample work demonstrates his journey from idea to concept. His most recent Textiles have become the inspiration for his exam piece.

Well done Tom, not only are you a joy to teach you have demonstrated rapid progress and skill development.

Keep up the good work. Miss M
