Year 10 Hand Stitch Examples.

One of the best things about teaching, in my opinion is promoting and showcasing excellent work. A huge well done goes to Billie Turner and Emily Thorpe in year 10 for their 'hand stitching' pages. The girls learn a technique in lesson and then independently build on their skills by experimenting further in a quest to continually push themselves an and improve their work.

Here are examples of both Billie and Emily's pages. Well done girls. Excellent work.

A well composed, informative page based on shells and hand stitching.

Examples of lazy daisy, cross, star and chain stitch.

Examples of running, ladder and twisted blanket stitch

A detailed page.

Examples of french knots, couching and loop stitch .

A huge well done to all of my year 10 Textiles girls for all of their effort and hard work.

Year 11 Design Ideas

What makes a good design idea? Well, in my opinion there are a few things. Clear annotation, labeling all materials and techniques, Artist inspirations, colour, pattern, quality and of course individualism. This is what i received when the year 11 textiles girls handed in their pages this week. Well done girls. It goes without saying that you have once again made me proud, your work is beautiful and to such a high standard. You should be so proud of your accomplishments so far and i can not wait to see your final pieces. Take a look at this amazing work.

Here are the initial Design Ideas and Final Design idea from Tasharna Patterson-Reid. Tasharna is designing an Obi belt which stems from her passion for Japanese culture and Anime. Her individualism, eye for design and annotation are outstanding. Well done Tasharna.

Finally here are the incredible Design Ideas and intricate samples pieces by Jenna Marshall. Jenna's designs stem from her love of 'Alice in Wonderland' and the work of artist Alisa Burke. Jenna's attention to detail is outstanding. in both her sample work and annotation. Well done Jenna, outstanding work and effort. Jenna will be creating a mad hatters hat.

Mini Monsters

George Hopkins Year 7 Mini Monster
In year 7 Miss Mellor teaches a very exciting 'Mini Monsters' project in which students are given the opportunity to design and make a monster of their choosing. Year 7 students learn how to tie dye fabric, use a sewing machine confidently, and embellish their monsters. The first technology rotation went very well and as you can imagine we had a plethora of colourful monsters filling the textiles room. One in particular stood out from the rest. Here is an example of George Hopkins vampire monster. Well done George, you have demonstrated great skill and creativity. Keep up the excellent work.
