Jessica Heye's Applique-Year 9.

The year 9's have been looking at Applique recently in order to create an Applique cushion demonstrating Applique, Reverse Applique, a variety of hand stitching and attaching a zip.

Jess has created a wonderful applique page backed up by a wide variety of research and designs. Here most recent applique samples are quite spectacular as I see neat, refined skills.

Here are some examples of her work.

Keep up the excellent work Jess. You are a very talented young lady.

Libby Barker's Research Year 10

I asked the year 10's to take inspirational photographs that tied in with their 'Textured Surfaces' project. Libby headed into Manchester and came back with flyers, band posters and images that inspired her. I then asked her to base some drawing work on what she found. Here is Libby's page.

Libby created some flower drawings which reminded me of artist 'Alisa Burke' therefore she recreated some samples in her own style using dye, gutta and pen on fabric and silk. She also looked at text in pen. I like the explanation and reasoning behind the journey evident in Libby's work.

Well done Libby. You produce such interesting work and I look forwards to seeing what you create in year 11. Keep up this creativity.

Niamh Mahoney's Design Plan

Teaching a craft subject is about inspiring others. Some are given ideas and some choose their own ideas...adding to them, embellishing them, injecting their own personality into their work. The year 9 Textiles group are very much independent workers with an array of exciting and interesting ideas.

Here is an example of Niamh Mahoney's Peacock applique cushion. I love the colours and the way the sample work has been positioned over her plan to demonstrate how it will look. Well done Niamh. I can't wait to see your finished piece.

Year 10 Hand Stitching

I am absolutely wowed by the effort demonstrated lesson after lesson by two of my current Year 10 students. I have a wonderful class of incredibly talented students who are developing their skills and confidence in this subject at a rapid rate. I will post lots of their work but the two pieces that really shone for me this week were:

Isabelle Bailey's Hand stitching shell page. I adore the colours, page composition and stitching detail.

Ria Duncan's Exquisitely hand stitched shells. Ria's detail and array of hand stitches have been done outstandingly.

Well done girls. Excellent effort, quality of work and dedication. I am very pleased with you both. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to a new and exciting term at ICC. We are lucky enough to be teaching G.C.S.E at year 9 this year and therefore you should expect a whole host of incredible work from our talented students.

Our first well done goes to Aimee Granell and Niamh Mahoney for their detailed, interesting and colourful mind maps filled with information and technique.

A fantastic start girls. Well done. The possibilities are endless.
